Day in Clay provides programs for students with all types of handicapping conditions and skill levels. Sometimes students are mainstreamed into a regular class, other times they are taught in a dedicated special needs class.
We have worked with Autism, Downs syndrome, Williams syndrome, and children with speech and language impairment. I am sensitive to student’s skill levels, sensitivities and provide age and capability appropriate arts education.
Clay provides a sensory experience, although everyone reacts differently, each project can address those sensibilities. Part of the workshop explores those impressions of clay with its textural and sensory nature. Using 2D pictures and images is a useful way to develop a relationship to working in 3D clay.
For example, sometimes hand over hand contact is helpful for students with varying degrees of motor skills. Other times, working on a flat surface like tile work is the best approach for exploring textures and patterns.
Programs are tailored to children’s needs. Visual aids are distributed and discussed as part of the program.
Free Imagery/ Documentation The excitement in the school’s art room is captured through photography. I provide a printed color poster and link to a digital photo slideshow of the students finished works that can be used in your art show or at an open house.
Day In Clay provides a hands-on art experience. Programs designed for your curriculum. Within minutes, participants are involved in the process of working with clay and learning about the relationship between art and society.
